With this assignment I feel like I am being forced to choose my favorite child. Oh well, this is the photo I chose to be developed. While walking through the woods I found this random fire hydrant in the middle of nowhere. What it's doing there I have no idea, but I thought it was really interesting.

This week's assignment was again to pick the five best photos of the week. I decided that I wanted to find the beauty in everyday ordinary things. These were the five that I decided upon.

This week's assignment was to post our favorite five photos from this past week. These are the ones I chose and played around with (mostly with just the saturation to bring out the colors more).

This assignment was to create a photo essay. I am obsessed with hands and I wanted to show the many things that hands can do. Each photo was manipulated the same way so that at first glance no one photo stands out more than the other; not one pair of hands looks better than the others.

I had planned on taking portraits of my roommate, but when my family surprised me by coming to see me play basketball I decided to take pictures of my little brother, Kacey. I asked what he wanted me to portray and the first thing he said was a sports star. Upon some further discussion we decided to go with, what he called, "confident strength." Not exactly sure what that meant, I began conducting him and snapping pictures.

The Conventional

This first picture isn't my favorite from the day, but I really like the reaction I got. My brother loves football so I told him to imagine that he was playing a game and he made an incredible tackle on a really good running back. When I said that he got a cheeky grin and cocked his eyebrow. This is the photo I captured.

I'm a cheater and want to add two conventionals. I was trying to get profile shots, but in almost all of them he had an empty blank stare. This one finally captured somewhat of what I was going for.

The Not-So-Conventional

After several photos I took one that I liked and thought that I would use it for my unconventional. However, while waiting for my parents I continued to snap pictures of Kacey. At one point he stuck his sunglasses on the back of his head, put his hands in his pocket and stood there, looking at me right as I snapped it. I liked what came out because he is already a pretty confident kid and this proves his "casual" confidence (it shows a little "confident strength" as well).

These are my self-portraits: a conventional one and one that shows a little about me.

The Conventional

I was just kinda experimenting with my camera and seeing what kind of pictures I could get, and this was the one I thought most interesting.

What's in a flag...

I've lived in Germany for the past three Summers and I've really grown to love everything about it: the land, the people, sometimes the weather, and, especially, the FOOD. As much as I love going to new places and experiencing new cultures, nothing beats home: the good 'ol US of A.

Tue, 17 Jan 2012 19:19:00 -0800 Five Great Photographers http://the-wonderful-world-of-cara.posterous.com/five-great-photographers http://the-wonderful-world-of-cara.posterous.com/five-great-photographers

I'm going to be honest; I really don't know many famous photographers. So for this assignment I googled famous photographers and picked the five that I thought were the best from my search. Some I have seen their work before. Some I might have heard their name before. Most of them, however, I just like their style.

Steve McCurry 1950-Present

"Shoot a lot. Remember…don’t take pictures…capture images."

Steve graduated from Penn State with a major in cinematography and film making, but fell in love with still photos when he worked on the college paper. He is well-known for his color photography.

Henri Cartier-Bresson 1908-2004

Henri Cartier-Bresson is a famous French street photographer. A native to Paris, he spent much of his time "capturing life for the citizens of France and the rest of the world."

Edward Steichen 1879-1973

Edward moved, with his family, to the United States when he was two years old. He was drafted into WWII and was put in the position of Director of Naval Photographic Institute. He is credited with having the photograph that has brought the most money.

"The Pond"

Yousuf Karsh 1908-2002

Yousuf grew up during the Armenian Genocide. In order to escape the devastation, his parents sent him to live with an uncle, who happened to be a photographer, in Canada. Under the guidance of his uncle, he learned much and became a famous portrait photographer.

Robert Doisneau 1912-1994

Robert Doisneau is one of France's most well-known and recognizable photographers. He is famous for his reportage photography. Most of his photos are not of a seriuos nature. "He wants to capture the world in action."

It was difficult for me to choose one picture that I thought was the best one I have ever taken. After a long day of searching through pictures, I decided to go with this one. It might not be my best, but it means alot to me. This photo was taken at the American cemetery in Normandy, France on July 25, 2011. For every unknown American soldier that died on those beaches, there is a cross that bears this inscription: "Here Rests in Honored Glory a Comrade in Arms Known but to God."
