Portraits of Someone Else
I had planned on taking portraits of my roommate, but when my family surprised me by coming to see me play basketball I decided to take pictures of my little brother, Kacey. I asked what he wanted me to portray and the first thing he said was a sports star. Upon some further discussion we decided to go with, what he called, "confident strength." Not exactly sure what that meant, I began conducting him and snapping pictures.
The Conventional
This first picture isn't my favorite from the day, but I really like the reaction I got. My brother loves football so I told him to imagine that he was playing a game and he made an incredible tackle on a really good running back. When I said that he got a cheeky grin and cocked his eyebrow. This is the photo I captured.
I'm a cheater and want to add two conventionals. I was trying to get profile shots, but in almost all of them he had an empty blank stare. This one finally captured somewhat of what I was going for.
The Not-So-Conventional
After several photos I took one that I liked and thought that I would use it for my unconventional. However, while waiting for my parents I continued to snap pictures of Kacey. At one point he stuck his sunglasses on the back of his head, put his hands in his pocket and stood there, looking at me right as I snapped it. I liked what came out because he is already a pretty confident kid and this proves his "casual" confidence (it shows a little "confident strength" as well).
